The Start of Romance
Kim Kardashian and
Kanye West are getting married after more than 2 years of dating, but they were friends well before they started a romance. Look back on their time together, starting in 2007, when they were are the start of their careers -- and their relationship.
2007 - Just Friends
Kardashian and West first met a decade or so ago, when she was working for singer Brandy Norwood and he was a young rapper.
"I was in love with her before I even got to even talk to her," West told Kris Jenner last summer. "Of course being in the limelight you have to have a match or like, someone that's equally yoked and it's difficult. ... And when I would be on the phone with her, even at my lowest moment, she'd give me energy and remind me of who I was, and I needed that support at all times."
However, for years, both were involved with other people, and theirs was a platonic relationship.
April 2012 - Confirmed to be dating
Fresh from her split from ex-husband
Kris Humphries, Kardashian was spotted spending time with West in New York City. Though they first said that they were just good friends, it became clear that they were dating after they were photographed going on a series of dates.
At the time, a source told People magazine that they were keeping things "light" but were open to seeing "where it goes."
December 2012 - Baby Makes Three
On Dec. 30, West asked concert goers at his show to make noise for his "baby mama."
Kardashian later confirmed on her blog that she was pregnant with the couple's first child.
"It's true!! Kanya and I are expecting a baby," she wrote. "We feel so blessed and lucky and wish that in addition to both of our families, his mom and my dad could be here to celebrate this special time with us. Looking forward to great new beginnings in 2013 and to starting a family. Happy New Year!!! Xo"
May 2013 - Kim First Met Gala
West, who has a strong interest in fashion, escorted a very pregnant Kardashian to her first Met Gala. Kardashian wore a floral
Givenchy design, leading some, including
Robin Williams, to mock her, though others defended her look.
"I think she looked amazing," Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci said.
"She was the most beautiful pregnant woman I dressed in my career."
June 2013 - Welcome, North !
Kardashian gave birth to the couple's daughter, whom they named North, on June 15.
Two months later, West revealed the first photo of the baby on Kris Jenner's since-canceled talk show.
"I think she has Kim's eyes," Jenner told West. "I think she has your lips. Some days she has your lips and some days she has Kim's lips."
"I pray she looks like her mother when she's older!"
October 2013 - She said "I Do"
On Kardashian's 33rd birthday, West surprised her by proposing at the
AT&T Park in
San Francisco in front of their loved ones.
"HE really is the most Romantic, Sweetest person I've ever met in my entire life," she said.
March 2014 - Feature as Vogue Cover Couple
In March 2014, Kardashian's dream of appearing on the cover of Vogue magazine came true. Unfortunately for the couple, some magazine readers weren't so pleased about Anna Wintour's decision to feature them so prominently.
"Part of the pleasure of editing Vogue, one that lies in a long tradition of this magazine, is being able to feature those who define the culture at any given moment, who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way it looks and influences the way we see it," she wrote.
"I think we can all agree on the fact that that role is currently being played by Kim and Kanye to a T. (Or perhaps that should be to a K?)"
May 5, 2014 - Mrs West Soon !
At the start of the month, rumors swirled that West and Kardashian had wed in a secret ceremony in L.A.
Not true, Kardashian said at the Met Gala. "Still Kim! Mrs. West soon," she said.
May 19, 2014 - Getting Married !
West and Kardashian are now in Paris, ready to kick off a lavish wedding weekend.
On May 24, they'll exchange vows at the
Forte di Belvedere in Florence, surrounded by family and friends.
"I love Florence, I love Italy and the Italian lifestyle," West told Florence's La Nazione newspaper.
"And I think we conceived our daughter North here, among the masterpieces of the Renaissance. It was our first honeymoon. ... It is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, for me the most beautiful in Europe."
